Cell Phone Lists Can Include Several ICE Numbers

The word "ICE" can help save a life during an
emergency. It's spreading like Spam
in inboxes, but it's a very real and serious idea. Cell phone users are being
encouraged to list their emergency contact's phone number under the listing of
ICE, which stands for "IN CASE OF EMERGENCY." That way, rescue crews can easily find
whom to call during emergencies, especially if it's not found anywhere else on
the person's belongings and the victim is unable to speak.
The idea is spreading through the Houston Fire Department.
"When you get on the scene, you find the cell phone and you've got an
unconscious party, it's another tool that we can find for the family to use as a
family contact," said Gilbert Bennett, with the Houston Fire Department. "We're
going to have to educate firefighters on what to look for. This e-mail message
has gone around the world."
Rusty Khosravi is recovering from a major head injury. He's
undergoing treatment at The Institute for Rehabilitation and Research. Last May, Khosravi was attacked in a
parking garage, beaten over the head and left for dead. "It's very important to have ICE as a
backup for family members," he said.
He did not have ICE on his cell phone at the time of his attack and said
it could have made a difference.
"My brother would have played a major impact. The response time would
have been quicker to me," Khosravi said.
